Note: I've compiled several scale exercises into one place. This is not my original work.
Check out Harmonizing Melodies, Beginner's Guide ( under Good Reads) to understand what is going on here.
Count up two notes to get the fingering for #5, reverting to the open string when both notes fall on the same string.

Now work that scale, get everything you can from it! Some ideas to try...
- Pick the scale with your eyes closed.
- Pick a given rhythm on each note of the scale.
- Pick with the index finger instead of the thumb.
- Assign each string to a finger (thumb, index, middle, ring).
- Pick one octave higher.
- Tremolo using a flatpick.
- Pick on the off-beats only (I'm not sure what this means)
Another scale exercise, using the g string as accompaniment:
Step 1: Using the pointer finger of your right hand, pluck out the notes of your favorite major scale in ascending order. (Right now I am practicing fingering scales with one finger assigned per string, T I M R)
Step 2: Now play the notes again, but in between each note, pick the G (top) string of your ukulele using the thumb of your right hand.
Step 3: Repeat steps 1 and 2, but in descending order.
